Lausanne, Switzerland, January 12th. 2013 – Emex, the Swiss-based global provider of Sustainability software for Health, Safety and the Environment has announced that the United Cement Company of Nigeria Limited (“UniCem”), has selected the EMEX platform to automate its Environmental and Health and Safety data management programme. UniCem, the leading supplier of cement in South Eastern Nigeria will rely on the EMEX solution to capture, track and report on their full spectrum of health and safety and environmental metrics.

The EMEX system will give UniCem a single platform to better manage its compliance and allow for greater insights into and control over safety practices delivered through a refreshingly easy-to-use interface that belies the powerful workflow-based software beneath.

Key Facts/ Highlights

The EMEX solution will be delivered as “immediately familiar” technology with a seamless replication of existing UniCem processes and terminology. Configuration tool-sets delivered as part of the solution give UniCem the freedom to make changes to the solution themselves as their evolving business requires – without having to engage the software vendor in expensive redesigns or reworks.

Core modules to be deployed will include Incident Management, Risks and Auditing as well as Environmental Data Capture. Additionally, the organisation will benefit from a Business Intelligence capability that delivers real-time, top-down, personalised reporting dashboards as necessary combined with a powerful analytics suite.

The Solution will be delivered via a SaaS (Software as a Service) business model in which UniCem access EMEX “through the cloud” ensuring complete flexibility and control over the deployment along with a better and faster subsequent upgrade process that completely future-proofs their investment.

Supporting Quotes

Mr. Olivier Lenoir, Managing Director, UniCem, added that the decision to take on this large-scale project with EMEX, was driven by two key considerations: “Firstly, we have the security of working with an innovative, dynamic team who know our industry well and that de-risks a lot of the implementation challenge. Secondly, as safety is our number one priority – driven through visible leadership from top management – it’s critical we support our people with access to a best-in-class IT infrastructure. EMEX is the gold standard for safety management in the cement industry”.

Richard Wall, CEO, EMEX: “We’re excited to work with UniCem to help the company build on its solid sustainability credentials. Our skilled implementation team, coupled with the highly configurable EMEX software, will ensure they get an industry-proven solution that’s totally suited to their requirements and will help mitigate against future safety and environmental risks”.

Lausanne, Switzerland, October 19, 2012 – EMEX, the worldwide EHSQ and Sustainability software group has announced that it has signed an agreement with TNK-BP, the major Russian Oil conglomerate to implement its Environmental Health and Safety solutions across the groups operations.
TNK-BP will utilise the EMEX platform to underpin the company’s deep commitment to sustainable oil production and effective reporting together with outstanding Health and Safety practices across all their operational areas.

Key Facts/ Highlights

•	In the initial phase, the EMEX Incident and audit modules are being implemented to automate existing incident reporting, investigation and audit processes at headquarters and across a number of operational subsidiaries within the group. A more extensive roll-out covering all corporate sites will immediately follow this initial pilot.
•	A core part of the effort will include the implementation of a closed-loop corrective actions workflow to ensure an enterprise-wide approach to problem solving that supports exacting procedures and a clear path of accountability.
•	EMEX Business Intelligence tools are being deployed to enable TNK-BP leadership to obtain a real-time, single “line-of-sight” of all Incidents and accidents across the organisation. Trending and relational analysis capabilities will allow the business to pin-point areas of opportunity using both leading and lagging indicators.
•	Monthly Data Capture routines will be automated in support of faster response times for specific EHS reporting such as those required by the State Supervision Authorities etc.

Supporting Quotes

Elena KOMPASENKO, TNK-BP Vice President, HSE added that TNK-BP had been through a very thorough assessment of the available software solutions and EMEX scored highest across every one of their evaluation criteria. “At TNK-BP, excellence in Health and Safety is not simply a programme of activity – it’s a core value, it’s what defines us as a business. EMEX intuitively understand what that means for us and our people and have demonstrated a real ability to help us take it to the next level. They’ve an industry familiarity that is second to none and a passion for execution that is truly confidence-building.”

Vladimir Lyutov, Planning Director, Corporate HSE and Project Lead for the implementation noted that the EMEX platform is an “incredibly user-friendly product. At the front-end, the simple, immediately familiar interface belies the power and complexity of the automated workflow taking place behind the scenes. EMEX have really cracked the “speed of adoption” challenge” and that’s an important criteria for TNK-BP.”

Richard Wall, CEO, EMEX; “We’re thrilled to be working with another innovative operator within the Oil and Gas sector. TNK-BP have an impressive track record in Health & Safety and we’ll be working hard to help them build on those solid foundations.”

MEDIA RELEASE

EMEX break new ground in Credible Environmental Reporting.

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 14, 2012– EMEX, the worldwide EHSQ and Sustainability software group has delivered a major update to its best in class environmental reporting module that can dramatically enhance the credibility of a company’s published environmental data.

Responding to increased recognition of the very real potential for sustainability related issues to materially affect a company’s investment value, risk profile and potential liabilities; the newly developed functionality helps to ensure a company’s published sustainability data can meet the same rigorous standards of assurance and scrutiny as their audited financial figures.

For businesses with a global presence the benefits are even more profound. As data must be captured from disparate corporate outposts across multiple jurisdictions and geographies the demand on effective management of environmental reporting increases exponentially. Global companies are required to maintain multiple emission factor libraries, capture measurements using multiple units of value and deliver all of the resulting data to a variety of regulatory authorities and other corporate stakeholders.

As this attention to sustainability grows, so too do the number of users of the data being collected; investors, analysts and increasingly large corporates (as they seek compliance within their broader supply chain), are all utilising this newly harvested data as a firm aid to decision-making.

Like never before, the risk to brand reputation from a forced re-statement of numbers is clear.

The EMEX platform mitigates that risk by harmonising and expediting environmental data identification, collection and migration processes in a way that preserves absolute data integrity world-wide. Using consistent application of accounting approaches, inventory boundaries and calculation methodologies the system helps to aggregate information consistently over time allowing for full historical data comparisons.

It brings a new confidence to published environmental data.

Key Facts/ Highlights

Assurance of Credible Reporting; EMEX provides dynamic support for emission factor management enabling the automated re-calculation of baseline data and sequential updates to conversion and formula methodologies. Methodologies for estimating emissions, emission factors and the various sector-specific formulae used in the proxy calculations are managed dynamically within the EMEX database. All changes to emission factors are time, date and author stamped and only applicable until superseded by new factors introduced as a result of (for example) a process change.

Total Protocol Flexibility; The new module provides an enterprise-class solution to global organisations looking to report environmental performance across multiple jurisdictions. With the capacity to handle unlimited protocols (and the targets associated with them), it allows companies to simultaneously report against any combination of local, international or regulatory requirements (including protocols contains with the CRC, OGP, IPIECA, GHG, GRI, IEA etc.) Additionally, new threshold management and approval workflows have been incorporated into the module to help dramatically reduce data capture errors. These automate “sense-checking” and can be engaged/disengaged by site location depending on the level of data policing deemed to be appropriate.

Global Capture & Reporting Capabilities; Managing reporting protocols and targets across multiple jurisdictions is dramatically simplified with the EMEX dynamic roll-up capability. Dynamic multi-currency and multi-measurement functionality enables full support for local currency data entry and separate metric/imperial unit capture with dynamic roll-up at corporate level into the preferred group trading units and currencies all at the click of a mouse.

Simon Kelly, Chief Strategy & Environmental Officer, EMEX commented:

“The credibility of sustainability reporting is perhaps the single biggest environmental challenge facing organisations today. Credibility of reporting is a function of many things but the litmus test must be; does it stand up to assurance and scrutiny by external auditors? If the answer to that question is anything other than an emphatic “yes”, you can expect to be punished severely by the markets down the line.”

PRESS RELEASE

1 March 2012

EMEX has been chosen by Lafarge for new health and safety risk management software.

Lausanne, Switzerland – EMEX, the Swiss-based international EHS and Sustainability software group, has completed implementation of its health and safety reporting software for Lafarge, the world leader in building materials.

The EMEX system will give accessibility to a wider range of health and safety performance indicators. As well as continuing to track ‘lagging’ indicators (using data from incidents that have already taken place), Lafarge will have an enhanced visibility on a range of ‘leading’ indicators (using quantitative data not arising from incidents, eg near misses, management time on sites, etc).

The EMEX system will also enable better tracking of follow-up from incidents, as well as an improved facility for benchmarking with countries in the Lafarge Group that are already at world-class level in health and safety.

This industry-leading platform is a global “through the cloud” system that has an unrivalled pedigree among major players in the extractive and exploratory sector and offers incredible business agility as a result of its powerful configurability and Business Intelligence.

Key Technical Highlights

The EMEX solution enables the collection of global incident data at source. Once entered on the system, data will be subjected to preconfigured workflows ensuring that notifications to management, regulators etc, happens in a timely manner. Powerful business intelligence software allows for sophisticated data-modelling and analysis routines that will assist in the early identification of improvements.

The first phase of the implementation which included an extensive programme of user training across four continents was completed in ten weeks. This rapid deployment is made possible as a result of the exceptional configurability of the EMEX platform which avoids the need for coding changes during the customer ’customisation‘ phase.

Richard Wall, CEO, EMEX: “This agreement is a prime example of how some of the world’s largest heavy industry players are embracing EMEX’s leading-edge technology to deliver a future-proofed solution for their EHS and Sustainability management programmes. EMEX is excited about the opportunity to contribute to Lafarge’s EHS data systems.

PRESS RELEASE

EMEX announce new legal functionality for Incident investigation.

Lausanne, Switzerland, January 27, 2012 – EMEX, the worldwide EHSQ and Sustainability software group has once again demonstrated an innovative response to issues and trends in the EHS market with the announcement of a new Litigation & Legal Privilege (“LLP”) functionality for its Incident Module.

The new functionality is designed to support the preservation of the confidential and privileged nature of communications between the company and its legal team in the immediate aftermath of a safety or environmental incident and throughout the subsequent investigation until the threat of any potential litigation has passed.

Preventing a recurrence of any serious incident, requires that companies engage in a frank and full investigation where information sharing is encouraged between employees and contractors alike. That can only happen when these communications enjoy the protection of legal privilege. Such protection ensures that a prosecuting party may not use the report (or other document elements relating to the investigation) to strengthen its case or use the information contained within it to bring additional charges against the company.

Deploying the EMEX Litigation & Legal Privilege functionality ensures a company is making the requisite efforts to preserve the confidential nature of the privileged information. A discrete investigation system is maintained within the existing operational safety processes by limiting access to and dissemination of the documents and other communications which form a part of the investigation and the final report.

Key Facts/ Highlights

EMEX LLP functionality helps an organisation to maintain the protection of legal privilege by ensuring information and reports relating to the investigation are circulated under strict rules of confidentiality.

Activating LLP for any particular investigation can be undertaken manually by an authorised legal counsel user or automatically following a specific incident type, severity, geographic location or third party involvement.

All LLP incidents are identified within the incident listing page and included as part of the monthly statistics but access to them is restricted to nominated users.

The system ensures all internal and external communications (email templates etc.) are made within a controlled legal framework and contain the relevant legal notifications with respect to the confidentiality of the investigation.

New functionality for placing and releasing LLP investigations is visible only to users with the role of legal counsel.

Functionality lessens the risk of deliberate or inadvertent spoliation of documented evidence and the associated court sanctions which can include striking testimony, defences or even entry of a judgement against the offending party.

Richard Wall, CEO, EMEX: “Increasingly, organisations are aware of their inherent vulnerabilities in the critical twenty four hours immediately following a serious incident or emergency. Such incidents are by their very nature, times of tremendous stress and confusion and with their focus naturally on supporting the affected individuals, it’s easy for the company to inadvertently breach the confidentiality that’s required to maintain legal privilege. With this new LLP functionality, we’ve helped them lock that down.”
